Bank Holidays in October 2022: Banks to remain closed for 21 days in these states, check full list here

New Delhi: According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar list, banks would remain closed for up to 21 days in October 2022. In the month of October, people across the country will celebrate a number of festivals, including Durga Puja, Dussehra , Milad-i-Sherif, Karva Chauth, Janmotsav of Srimanta Sankardeva, Kati Bihu, Kali Puja, Deepawali, Govardhan Pooja, Bhai Duj, Laxmi Puja, and Chhath Puja, among others.

Although, since all states will not be celebrating all the above-mentioned festivals and special days, banks will be closed as per the state's celebration and won't be shut concurrently. Nonetheless, to avoid any inconvenience and to complete your task effectively, compile a list of essential days when banks will be closed before visiting your bank branch in October. 

On account of the celebration of festivals, banks' closing of accounts and observance of special days, as well as the weekends, banks will be closed for as many as 21 days out of the 31 days in October.

According to the Reserve Bank of India's holiday calendar, the number of holidays in October has been set at 15, this includes October 8 (second Saturday) which will be marked as Milad-i-Sherif/Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi (Birthday of Prophet Muhammed). Weekends make up the remaining six days of the 21-day bank holiday.

List of bank holidays for the month of October 2022:


October 1: Banks to remain closed in Gangtok on account of Half yearly closing of bank accounts.

October 2: First Sunday of the month and Gandhi Jayanti.

October 3: Banks in Agartala, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Imphal, Kolkata, Patna and Ranchi will be shut to mark the celebration of Durga Puja (Maha Ashtami).

October 4: To mark the occasion of Durga Puja/Dussehra (Maha Navami)/Ayudha pooja/Janmotsav of Srimanta Sankardeva, banks will be closed in Agartala, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gangtok, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Patna, Ranchi, Shillong and Thiruvananthapuram.

October 5: On account of Durga Puja/Dussehra (Vijaya Dashmi)/Janmotsav of Srimanta Sankardeva banks will be shut across the country, except in Imphal.

October 6: Banks will be closed in Gangtok on the occasion of Durga Puja (Dasain).

October 7: Banks will remain shut in Gangtok for the second-day celebration of Durga Puja (Dasain).

October 8: While banks in Bhopal, Jammu, Kochi, Srinagar and Thiruvananthapuram are listed to remain shut on the occasion of Milad-i-Sherif/Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi (Birthday of Prophet Muhammed) as per RBI, banks in other parts of the country will also be non-operational as the day is the second Saturday of the month.

October 9: Second Sunday of the month.

October 13: Banks will stay shut in Shimla on the occasion of Karva Chauth.

October 14: Banks in Jammu and Srinagar will remain closed on this day since it is the first Friday after Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi,.

October 16: Third Sunday of the month.

October 18: Banks will be closed in Guwahati on account of Kati Bihu.

October 22: Fourth Saturday of the month

October 23: Fourth Sunday of the month

October 24: Banks across India, except in Gangtok, Hyderabad, and Imphal will remain closed on the occasion of Kali Puja/Deepavali/Diwali (Laxmi Pujan)/Naraka Chaturdashi.

October 25: On the occasion of Laxmi Puja/Deepawali/Govardhan Pooja banks will be shut in Gangtok, Hyderabad, Imphal and Jaipur.

October 26: All banks will remain closed in Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Dehradun, Gangtok, Jammu, Kanpur, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Shimla and Srinagar on account of Govardhan Pooja/Vikram Samvant New Year Day/Bhai Bij/Bhai Duj/Diwali (Bali Pratipada)/Laxmi Puja/Accession Day.

October 27: Banks in Gangtok, Imphal, Kanpur and Lucknow will be shut on the occasion of Bhaidooj/Chitragupt Jayanti/Laxmi Puja/Deepawali/Ningol Chakkouba.

October 30: Fifth Sunday of the month.

October 31: Banks will be closed in Ahmedabad, Patna and Ranchi on account of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's Birthday/Surya Pashti Dala Chhath (Morning ardhya)/Chhath Puja.
